Slice Storm: Fate's Edge

Play Slice Storm: Fate's Edge โ€” a free Greek myth slicing game in your browser

Slice Storm: Fate's Edge is a free browser slicing game. Cut the threads of fate out of Typhon's storm, dodge black doom knots, land Rends and finish thirty chapters of Greek myth to free Princess Lysandra.

Slice Storm: Fate's Edge is a free browser-based slicing arcade game built on Greek myth. Typhon climbed out of the pit, tore the Loom of the Fates out of the sky and whipped every thread of every mortal life into a storm. The three Moirai are scattered, and Atropos dropped her shears โ€” you caught them. Hold and drag to sweep the blade through the threads tumbling out of the dark, cut them free before they touch the ground, and never, ever cut one of the black doom knots Typhon ties with the lives he has stolen.

Every thread you free is somebody: the loose gold threads of ordinary lives, the measured silver of the careful ones, the heavy bronze warps of old ships, the saffron wefts woven for kings. Some threads are wrapped in iron and take two passes. Some are phantom threads that only exist half the time. And somewhere in the middle of the storm, knotted into Typhon's own warp, is the golden thread of Princess Lysandra โ€” thirty chapters of unbraiding his weave before hers comes free.

How to play

  1. Sweep the blade. Hold the mouse button or put a finger down, then drag. The blade cuts only while it is moving fast, so a slow drag slides straight past a thread.
  2. Cut the middle. Every thread carries a bright measure mark at its centre. Cutting there pays 50% more and is announced as a Measured cut.
  3. Chain and Rend. Every sweep that cuts something raises your chain multiplier, up to ร—2. Three or more threads in one pass is a Rend, paid at a squared bonus.
  4. Spare the knots. Doom knots are black, spiked and ringed in red. Cutting one kills a mortal life and takes one of your three heartbeats.
  5. Meet the objectives. Some chapters want score, some want a number of threads, some want a particular kind of thread freed, and some simply want a clean sky with zero knots cut.
  6. Seal the band. One star for clearing the chapter, two for reaching par, three for beating par by a third without once touching a knot.

What flies through the storm

ThreadPointsWhat it does
Loose Thread10The common gold thread of an ordinary mortal life. The bread and butter of every chapter.
Silver Thread15Measured, thinner and faster โ€” it arcs across the screen before you have finished reading it.
Bronze Warp20Heavy, slow and worth three loose threads. It spins, so cut it across the middle.
Saffron Weft30The purple weft woven for kings and queens. Typhon took these first.
Warded Thread45Wrapped in iron by Typhon: one pass only chips the bands, the second frees it.
Phantom Thread55Fades in and out of the storm. It can only be cut while the sky admits it exists.
Doom Knotโ€”A life ended. Cutting it costs you a heartbeat, and three of them end the chapter.
Gifts5Clotho's Spindle (frenzy), Lachesis' Hourglass (slow time), a shard of Atropos' edge (double points) and ambrosia (one heartbeat back).

Chapter objectives and star ratings

Objective typeWhat it asksWhere it appears
ScoreReach a measure of points before the storm moves onEvery chapter

The star lines were not invented. A reference slicer โ€” the same deterministic code that ships in the game file โ€” plays every chapter with the exact seeded stream a player receives, and the game measures what it actually achieves. One star is the objectives, two stars is par, and the third star is par ร—1.35 without once cutting a doom knot: the drop budget already fails you for sloppy cutting, so the last star is purely about clean steel.

Why it is hard in a good way

Every slicing game is a greed engine, and this one is honest about it. The blade is free โ€” the storm is what charges you. A wide sweep that catches five threads is a fortune; the same sweep a hand's width lower is a doom knot and a life. Because the storm is deterministic โ€” the same seeded stream every attempt โ€” the thing you learn is never "the game got lucky", it is "I know that knot comes in on the left in four seconds". Skill in Slice Storm is reading the sky one breath ahead.

The pressure comes from the ground, not from a timer. Threads do not expire, they fall, and every thread that reaches the ground is a life let go. Chapter budgets count exactly how many drops you are allowed, so a chapter is never lost to a clock you cannot see โ€” only to threads you watched fall.

Strategy that actually works

  • Cut low first. A thread near the ground is more urgent than a high one; everything else can wait one more pass of the storm.
  • Read the whole arc before you sweep. Threads launched from the bottom arc up, hang and fall. The hanging moment is when three of them line up for a Rend.
  • Guard the knot, not the thread. If a doom knot drifts toward the line you planned, change the plan, not the knot. A knot cut is a heartbeat; a thread dropped is a number.
  • Chase Measured cuts in the first act, Rends after. Early chapters are generous with the centre marks; later chapters pay far more for multi-thread passes.
  • Spend the gifts on purpose. The spindle's frenzy doubles the spawn โ€” that is extra score and extra risk. Take it when the sky is already clear, not when it is full.
  • In Fate Storm, protect the gauge. Six drops per heartbeat at the start sounds forgiving; it tightens every 22 seconds. A mediocre streak with no drops beats a spectacular one with five.

Technical notes

The whole game is a single self-contained page: no third-party scripts, no trackers, no network calls after load. Rendering is HTML5 canvas 2D at a logical resolution of 720 ร— 1280, redrawn at the display refresh rate with a device-pixel-ratio aware backing store. Art is generated in code โ€” the storm sky, the drifting cloud bands, the loom wheel, the ruined temple, the braided threads, the black knots and the blade trail. Sound is synthesised at runtime with the Web Audio API: each slice is a fresh filtered noise burst, so a fast chain reads as texture rather than a repeated sample, over a storm bed of two detuned saws under modulated wind.

The simulation is deterministic. It runs at a fixed 120 Hz step, never calls Math.random(), and each chapter draws its thread stream from its own seeded generator. That is why the reference slicer โ€” shipped inside the game, and used for nothing but balance and for driving the promo capture โ€” plays the exact sequence a player gets, and why every par line and drop budget is a measurement rather than a guess: all thirty chapters were proven completable, and every third star was proven reachable, by that same code before release.

Progress is stored locally in your browser under slicestorm.save.v1: unlocked chapters, stars, best scores and your sound preference. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no server.

Slice Storm: Fate's Edge โ€” frequently asked questions

Is Slice Storm: Fate's Edge free to play?

Yes. Slice Storm: Fate's Edge is completely free, needs no account, no download and no plugin, and it never asks for payment. It runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone.

How do I cut a thread in Slice Storm?

Drag your finger or hold the mouse button and sweep across a thread. The blade only cuts while it is moving quickly, so a slow drag will pass straight through. Cutting near the middle measure mark of a thread pays 50 percent more and is announced as a Measured cut.

What are doom knots and why do they hurt me?

Doom knots are the black, spiked tangles Typhon ties with the threads he steals. Cutting one kills a mortal life and costs you one of your three heartbeats. Three cut knots end the chapter immediately. They always fly with a red warning ring so you can read them in time.

What is a Rend in Slice Storm?

A Rend is three or more threads cut in a single sweep of the blade. The Fates pay for economy: the bonus grows with the square of the count, so a five-thread Rend is worth far more than five separate cuts.

How many chapters does the campaign have?

Thirty chapters across four acts: The Riven Loom, Threads in the Wind, Storm Over Olympus and The Edge of Atropos. Every chapter has its own objectives and its own seeded thread stream, and finishing one unlocks the next. After chapter thirty you can keep playing the endless Fate Storm.

Can I play Slice Storm on a phone?

Yes, and it was built for it. The game is one HTML5 canvas sized to your screen, swiping is the only control, and sound starts muted until you switch it on. It works offline once the page has loaded, because nothing after the first load touches the network.
