Slice Storm: Fate's Edge

Typhon tore the Loom of the Fates out of the sky and whipped every mortal thread into a storm. Atropos dropped her shears — you caught them. Cut the threads free, spare the black knots, and cut the storm down to the princess inside it.

Swipe with one finger or hold the mouse button and sweep. Sound stays off until you turn it on, and your progress is stored only in this browser.

Slice Storm: Fate's Edge — a slicing arcade game built on a Greek myth

Slice Storm: Fate's Edge is a free browser slicing game: you cut flying threads with a single sweep of the blade, dodge the black doom knots that cost you a heartbeat, and clear thirty chapters of a Greek myth campaign to free Princess Lysandra from the storm Typhon made out of her thread.

How to play Slice Storm

  1. Sweep the blade. Hold the mouse button or put a finger down, then drag. The blade cuts only while it is moving fast, so a slow drag slides straight past a thread.
  2. Cut the middle. Every thread carries a bright measure mark at its centre. Cutting there pays 50% more and is announced as a Measured cut.
  3. Chain and Rend. Every sweep that cuts something raises your chain multiplier, up to ×2. Three or more threads in one pass is a Rend, paid at a squared bonus.
  4. Spare the knots. Doom knots are black, spiked and ringed in red. Cutting one kills a mortal life and takes one of your three heartbeats.
  5. Meet the objectives. Some chapters want score, some want a number of threads, some want a particular kind of thread freed, and some simply want a clean sky with zero knots cut.

What flies through the storm

ThreadPointsWhat it does
Loose Thread10The common gold thread of an ordinary mortal life. The bread and butter of every chapter.
Silver Thread15Measured, thinner and faster — it arcs across the screen before you have finished reading it.
Bronze Warp20Heavy, slow and worth three loose threads. It spins, so cut it across the middle.
Saffron Weft30The purple weft woven for kings and queens. Typhon took these first.
Warded Thread45Wrapped in iron by Typhon: one pass only chips the bands, the second frees it.
Phantom Thread55Fades in and out of the storm. It can only be cut while the sky admits it exists.
Doom Knot—A life ended. Cutting it costs you a heartbeat, and three of them end the chapter.
Gifts5Clotho's Spindle (frenzy), Lachesis' Hourglass (slow time), a shard of Atropos' edge (double points) and ambrosia (one heartbeat back).

Chapter objectives and star ratings

Objective typeWhat it asksWhere it appears
ScoreReach a measure of points before the storm moves onEvery chapter
ThreadsFree a set number of living threadsEvery chapter
Thread typeFree a number of a specific kind — silver, bronze, saffron, warded or phantomActs I–III
Drops allowedLet no more than a set number of threads reach the groundTight chapters in acts II–IV
Clean skyCut zero doom knotsThe three chapters where the sky must stay clean

The star lines were not invented. A reference slicer — the same deterministic code that ships in the game file — plays every chapter with the exact seeded stream a player receives, and the game measures what it actually achieves. One star is the objectives, two stars is par, and the third star is par ×1.35 without once cutting a doom knot: the drop budget already fails you for sloppy cutting, so the last star is purely about clean steel.

Frequently asked questions

Is Slice Storm: Fate's Edge free to play?

Yes. Slice Storm: Fate's Edge is completely free, needs no account, no download and no plugin, and it never asks for payment. It runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone.

How do I cut a thread in Slice Storm?

Drag your finger or hold the mouse button and sweep across a thread. The blade only cuts while it is moving quickly, so a slow drag will pass straight through. Cutting near the middle measure mark of a thread pays 50 percent more and is announced as a Measured cut.

What are doom knots and why do they hurt me?

Doom knots are the black, spiked tangles Typhon ties with the threads he steals. Cutting one kills a mortal life and costs you one of your three heartbeats. Three cut knots end the chapter immediately. They always fly with a red warning ring so you can read them in time.

What is a Rend in Slice Storm?

A Rend is three or more threads cut in a single sweep of the blade. The Fates pay for economy: the bonus grows with the square of the count, so a five-thread Rend is worth far more than five separate cuts.

How many chapters does the campaign have?

Thirty chapters across four acts: The Riven Loom, Threads in the Wind, Storm Over Olympus and The Edge of Atropos. Every chapter has its own objectives and its own seeded thread stream, and finishing one unlocks the next. After chapter thirty you can keep playing the endless Fate Storm.

Can I play Slice Storm on a phone?

Yes, and it was built for it. The game is one HTML5 canvas sized to your screen, swiping is the only control, and sound starts muted until you switch it on. It works offline once the page has loaded, because nothing after the first load touches the network.

Technical notes

The whole game is a single self-contained page: no third-party scripts, no trackers, no network calls after load. Rendering is HTML5 canvas 2D at a logical resolution of 720 × 1280, redrawn at the display refresh rate with a device-pixel-ratio aware backing store. Art is generated in code — the storm sky, the drifting cloud bands, the loom wheel, the ruined temple, the braided threads, the black knots and the blade trail. Sound is synthesised at runtime with the Web Audio API: each slice is a fresh filtered noise burst, so a fast chain reads as texture rather than a repeated sample, over a storm bed of two detuned saws under modulated wind.

The simulation is deterministic. It runs at a fixed 120 Hz step, never calls Math.random(), and each chapter draws its thread stream from its own seeded generator. That is why the reference slicer — shipped inside the game, and used for nothing but balance and for driving the promo capture — plays the exact sequence a player gets, and why the par lines are measurements rather than guesses.
