Play Boom Cell: Spawn of Chaos free. A Greek-myth cell growth arena: feed on the motes of creation, divide to catch your rivals, dodge the Maws of Night, and crack the Throne of Ananke to free Aether. 30 chapters, four acts, endless mode.

Boom Cell: Spawn of Chaos is a free browser cell growth arena game built on the Greek creation myth. Hatched from the world-egg, you are Phanes, the first cell of creation, adrift in a void of stray motes and rival spawn. Feed on the light, grow heavier and slower, and divide your own body to fire a piece at prey you could never outrun. Thirty chapters across four acts end at the Throne of Ananke, where you must grow greater than fate itself โ€” and ram the eldest of the spawn open to free the newborn light.

The loop is simple and merciless. Motes of creation add their mass to yours; any rival at least fifteen percent lighter than you is food; anything heavier is a threat to flee. From Act II the Maws of Nyx shred whatever bulk drifts into them โ€” your nucleus survives, your mass never falls below the mass you hatched with. From Act III the hunters of Erebus chase whatever they can eat. In boss chapters the win is not a number on a bar: grow to 1.15 times the eldest spawn's mass and ram the throne open.

How to play

  1. Flow toward the pointer. The mouse or your finger sets the direction; smaller is faster, heavier is slower.
  2. Feed on motes. Every glowing mote adds its mass to yours. The chapter target is mass.
  3. Swallow the smaller. Any rival at least 15 percent lighter than you is food โ€” drift your membrane over it.
  4. Divide to strike. Press Space or tap โœ‚: your body splits, each piece fired at the cursor. Pieces merge back after five seconds.
  5. Mind the dark. The Maws of Nyx shred your bulk but spare your nucleus; Erebus hunters chase whatever they can eat.
  6. Crack the throne. In boss chapters, grow to 1.15 times the boss mass and ram it. Fate breaks on contact.

Why every chapter can be finished

Every chapter runs on a fixed seed with a fixed 60-hertz timestep โ€” no random numbers while you play, so a chapter is identical on every device. During development a reference wisp โ€” an automated cell driven by the same input the player gets โ€” played all thirty chapters. Seeds where it won comfortably were kept, and its measured time is printed in every chapter brief as the par; three stars want you within 1.15 times that time.

Strategy that actually works

  • Chain the motes. Pick arcs that pass through several motes instead of darting between them โ€” speed is mass.
  • Divide is a spear, not a habit. Every piece you send out is a piece a hunter can eat. Split when prey is close and nothing bigger is nearer.
  • Corner the slow. Heavy spawn hug the walls of their wander. Cut the corner, do not chase the tail.
  • Maws eat bulk, not plans. Losing mass to a maw beats losing the chapter; a small cell is a fast cell.
  • Crack bosses at 1.15ร—, not before. The throne does not care about courage, only mass.

Technical notes

Everything is generated: no image is loaded by the game, no audio file is played, no third-party script runs. Cells, maws, motes and nebulae are Canvas 2D drawn from the same state the simulation steps, and the drone, the feed blips and the throne-crack chime are synthesised with the Web Audio API. The simulation is deterministic โ€” a fixed seed and a fixed 1/60-second step โ€” which is what makes the reference wisp's times honest. Progress and stars live in your own browser under boomcell.save.v1. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no server.

Boom Cell: Spawn of Chaos โ€” frequently asked questions

What is Boom Cell: Spawn of Chaos?

It is a free browser cell-growth arena built on Greek creation myth. You are Phanes, the first cell, hatched from the world-egg into a void full of stray motes of creation and rival spawn. You feed, you grow, you divide your own body to catch what you cannot outrun, and across thirty chapters in four acts you grow great enough to crack the Throne of Ananke and free the newborn light, Aether. There is also an endless mode, the Abyss of Chronos.

How do you play it?

Move the mouse or drag your finger: the cell flows toward the pointer. Small glowing motes add their mass to yours; any rival at least 15 percent lighter than you can be swallowed by drifting your membrane over it. Press Space or tap the Divide button to split: each piece of your body is fired at the cursor and merges back a few seconds later. Reach the chapter target mass, or in boss chapters grow to 1.15 times the boss mass and ram it to crack the throne. The chapter is lost if every piece of you is devoured or the clock runs out.

What are the Maws of Nyx and the hunters?

They are the two hazards. From Act II, the Maws of Nyx are dark whirlpools that shred your bulk at a steady rate, but your nucleus survives: your mass never falls below the mass you hatched with. From Act III, Erebus hunters actively chase you whenever they are heavy enough to eat you; they give up if you keep your distance. Rival spawn flee when you are the bigger threat and none of them ever flee the boss.

How does scoring and ranking work?

Mass is the score. Each chapter prints a reference time achieved by an automated wisp that plays by exactly the same rules you do. Finish at or under 1.15 times the wisp time for three stars, 1.7 times for two stars, and any win earns one star. Boss chapters rank by how fast you crack the throne. Stars and unlocked chapters are kept in your own browser.

Is every chapter actually winnable?

Yes, and it is measured rather than promised. Every chapter runs on a fixed seed with a fixed 60-hertz timestep, so it plays identically on every device. During development a reference wisp played all thirty chapters with the same rules the player gets; seeds where it won comfortably were kept, and its measured time is printed in each chapter brief as the par.

What is the endless mode?

The Abyss of Chronos. Waves of ever-larger arenas with more rivals and no clock: every fourth wave sends a Chronos Spawn boss that must be cracked to advance. One death ends the run, and your best wave is kept in your own browser.

Does it work on a phone, and does it cost anything?

No download, no install, no account and no payment. The whole game is one HTML5 page: every cell, maw, mote and sound is drawn or synthesised in the browser. Pointer and touch control both work, there is an on-screen Divide button on small screens, and it runs down to a 320-pixel screen in portrait or landscape. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no server.
