Fashion Valkyries: Saga of Style is a dress-up game with the brain of a puzzle: every trial hands you a brief, a wardrobe and a petal budget, and the score is a real optimum rather than a compliment. You are the atelier of the Valkyries at Vingolf. Odin has put the shieldmaiden Brynhildr to sleep inside a ring of fire, and the only thing that will part the flame is a cloak woven from thirty runes of honest dressing. Each chapter keeps one shieldmaiden — Sigrun, Hrist, Mist, Skogul, Freyja, Sif, and finally Brynhildr herself — and each look that rings true cuts one rune.
| Judge | Reads | How it is scored |
|---|---|---|
| Freyja | Beauty | The worth of the pieces themselves: three points per tier and two per symbol mark. Big, ornate garments simply read as more. |
| Verdandi | Harmony | Four points for every piece that shares the largest palette family. Six frost pieces on one body is a statement; six colours is a mess. |
| Mimir | Lore | Nine points for every requirement honoured, twenty-two for every optional flourish. This is the judge who reads the brief instead of the dress. |
From the frost court onwards the rail starts offering rime-cursed pieces: cheap, high tier, and quietly ruinous. A cursed tier-five piece costs about a quarter less than an honest one and satisfies any tier requirement on its own — and then taxes every point you earn by fourteen. Some late briefs push the budget so tight that rime is the rational choice. Most do not, and a cursed piece will cost you three stars without ever looking like it.
| Act | Chapters | Where you are | What arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| I · The Ash Grove | 1–8 | Vingolf, the atelier of the Norns | Palettes, symbols, shared-family demands |
| II · Jotunheim Frostcourt | 9–16 | The court of the frost giants | Rime-cursed pieces, tier demands, tighter petals |
| III · The Alfheim Loom | 17–24 | The light-elves' weaving hall | Symbol sets, palette bans, matched pairs, flourishes |
| IV · Asgard and the Ring of Fire | 25–30 | The All-Thing, then Hindarfjall | Five and six demands at once, on a budget with no slack |
Past chapter thirty the Ever-Loom deals new briefs forever, each cut tighter than the last, every one checked by the solver before you ever see it so the loom can never hand you an impossible demand.
Read the brief, then dress the shieldmaiden. Every trial states exactly what she must wear: how many pieces share a palette family, which symbols must appear, the minimum tier for a slot, and how many petals you may spend. Pick one piece for each of the six slots — headdress, robe, armor, cloak, jewels and relic — and present the look once every requirement is met and the total cost is inside the budget.
It is a constraint puzzle wearing a dress-up wardrobe. Requirements and the petal budget turn every chapter into a knapsack problem, and the score is a genuine optimum: an exhaustive solver walks the entire rail of available garments, so three stars always means you matched the best possible reading and never means you guessed well.
Three Norns read the look. Freyja scores Beauty: the raw worth of the pieces themselves, three points per tier plus two per symbol mark. Verdandi scores Harmony: four points for every piece that shares one palette family with the largest group. Mimir scores Lore: nine points for every requirement you honoured and twenty-two for every optional flourish you took. Meeting every requirement makes a look legal; the total decides your stars.
Rime-cursed pieces are cheap, high tier, and dishonest. A cursed tier-five piece costs about a quarter less than an honest one and satisfies any tier requirement, but it taxes every point you earn by fourteen. Some late briefs leave you so little budget that rime is the rational choice. Most do not, and a cursed piece will quietly cost you three stars.
One star for a legal look that meets every requirement, two stars for reaching ninety percent of the best possible reading, and three stars for matching that best reading exactly. The three-star target is printed on every brief, so you always know what you are chasing.
Thirty chapters across four acts: the Ash Grove, the Jotunheim Frostcourt, the Alfheim Loom, and Asgard and the Ring of Fire. Each chapter you finish cuts one rune into the cloak, and the thirtieth rune is cut for Brynhildr herself — the shieldmaiden Odin put to sleep inside a wall of flame. After chapter thirty the Ever-Loom keeps dealing new briefs forever.
Fashion Valkyries is a single-page HTML5 game with no engine, no framework, no external assets and no network calls. The shieldmaiden, all ninety-four garments, the aurora sky, the rune ring and every sound are drawn and synthesised at runtime from code — the only thing that is not is the cover image. Chapter balance is not hand-tuned: a deterministic builder proposes a brief, a branch-and-bound solver proves it satisfiable, finds the cheapest legal look, sets the petal budget from it and then returns the exact best score, which becomes the three-star target. The same solver powers the Hint button, which searches every one- and two-piece change from where you are standing and tells you the shortest way back to a legal look.
